Principal's Pride

Today was Trevin's turn for Principal's Pride. He received this because of his excellence in Spelling and because he did a wonderful job on his presentation on something unique about Utah. He chose to do a presentation on Lake Effect snow and we both really learned a lot from this. I am so proud of the way that Trevin has progressed this year. He is now working on 5th grade reading skills and has started the math program at Sylvan. This is in hopes that he will be ahead when actually starting 5th grade next year. We can't wait for our new school to be built!!!

Fire Station Field Trip

Today we went to the Taylorsville Fire Station for a field trip with Bryn's pre-school class. This is always so much fun for the kids because they get to see the firefighters all dressed up and take a tour of where they live/work. Bryn got a chance to sit in the ambulance and spray the water hose. Harlee had a good time too and was in heaven when the firefighter handed her a stuffed bear. She has held onto that thing ever since. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to experience these things with my girls.

Soccer

This year we gave McKade a choice, Baseball or Soccer. He chose Soccer. Brett is insistent that after sitting baseball out for a year he will want back in next year but I am not totally convinced. He loves Soccer and he is pretty good. He had his first game last week and his second game today. I haven't made it to either game and yes I do feel bad about it. Today it was raining and I chose to keep the rest of us at home. He played goalie today and had compliments from the parents on the other team about how good he was. He talks about it all the time and he is excited to play which is all I can ask for. I always want them to try everything once and if they don't enjoy it we don't make them do it again. Here are some pictures of Soccer in April. It's still winter in Utah but the games must go on.

The Zoo

We finally had a break in the winter weather for a few days so my friend Kelly and I decided a trip to the Zoo was definitely in order. I packed a lunch and a bunch of snacks and we were on our way. It ended up that since Erin is off track she was able to come with us too. The kids had so much fun running from animal to animal and asking all sorts of questions. We stopped at the monkey exhibit and there were a lot of people standing around-most of them zoo workers. As we were watching it looked like they had just introduced a new baby. Turns out they were introducing some different monkeys to the exhibit and the one that we thought was a baby was actually an old man, 40 years old to be exact. The workers were making sure they weren't going to fight. I asked what they would do if there was a fight and she pointed out all the water hoses that each person had in their hands. I guess they turn on the water hoses until they can get them separated. The kids also got to see a Hawk up close and personal. Bryn wasn't quite too sure about that one and kept her distance. We went for a ride on the new Carousel and it wouldn't be a zoo trip without the train either. The animals were really active and it was a perfect day to spend outside with my girls. I promised the boys a return trip in a couple of weeks when they are off track too.

Running

One of my goals for the year was to run in a marathon. I had an invite from an old friend to be on her team for the Wastach Back Marathon this year. It came during the time that neither Brett nor I had a job and I didn't feel like I could shell out $95 for the registration fee. I regret it now but am planning on it for next year and I have already started recruiting. I now have two fabulous running partners. I have recruited Trevin and McKade to go running with me at night. Surprisingly enough we can all run about the same pace. This has been good practice for Trevin for Football Season. He has already been running his little tush off at baseball practice but this is giving me that extra push. McKade has always been a good runner and I am surprised at how well he can keep up. Maybe he will be interested in running cross country or track as he gets older. I am hoping to find a couple of smaller marathons to run in this summer so we will see....

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday came and went in a blur as does every holiday for us lately. Luckily we don't have to be to Church until 1:00 so the morning wasn't quite as crazy as usual. The kids found the basket the Easter Bunny left and a few other little treats. Brett and I decided it would be fun to buy a season family pass to The Bees this year. We stuck that in their basket, from mom and dad, of course and the boys were so excited. They couldn't believe that we could go to all 72 games if we were able to. Unfortunately the weather has yet to cooperate so we haven't had the chance to go yet-hopefully soon though! After Church we headed to Denice's for a yummy dinner. Denice even talked Pa and Joanie into making an appearance this year. It's about time guys! The kids had a little Easter egg hunt which was moved inside because of the unpredictable weather. It ended up being a gorgeous day and a fun Easter Sunday. We talked to the kids about what the day meant and they told us what they had learned in Church that day. That night we watched Elder Holland's conference talk that had been set to music. I listened to this talk during Conference but it meant a lot more on Easter Sunday. I am grateful for the Savior's sacrifice for us and the chance that we have to focus on that this Easter Sunday.

Easter Saturday

Yes, I know I said Easter Saturday. At our house the holidays last all weekend. Thanks to our late Church schedule I knew we wouldn't have much of an opportunity to spend time with my dad and Joanie so we decided to celebrate with them today. We went to their house for breakfast and then the traditional egg hunting festivities. The breakfast was super yummy and the kids had a blast, as usual. This evening we spent coloring eggs with Brett's family. The kids were really loud, made a mess and had a lot of fun. Easter continues tomorrow at our house so I will keep you posted!!!

Play Ball!

Baseball season is upon us once again. After one rain-out, Trevin finally got to play his first game tonight. It was a nice day but a little windy and yes, a little chilly too. We came prepared with blankets and sweatshirts and I was grateful he played a 5:30 game. He was so excited and we thought the team was so prepared but they got beat and the poor kids were exhausted. They have practiced non-stop since the middle of March rain or shine and I think the kids were just plain old burnt-out. Trevin only got to bat once and went down swinging which is all we have asked of him. I am excited to see how the kids progress as the season wears on. Rain is in the forecast for this week so we may not see much baseball. Next up-soccer. McKade starts playing next weekend. To be continued.......

My Crazy Girls!

I was working at the computer the other night and Harlee had sat down next to me and opened up a book. I had to capture the moment. As soon as she noticed I had the camera the moment was over and she wanted to see the picture. After that Brynlee wanted in on the fun too. Aren't they the cutest???

Brett's New Job

Brett started his 2nd new job today. He was in the interview process for what seems like forever and finally got the job offer after he had started with iFreedom Direct. This was the job that both of us were praying for. He will be a Sales Rep for Cintas in their Document Management department. This is a great blessing and a great opportunity for Brett. We need to thank all of those individuals that made both of these jobs possible. Brett has two really good friends who helped him get interviews at both of these companies and without those we would have pretty much had nothing. The economy is so scary and the job market is full of applicants with very few jobs to go around. I am so grateful for everyone's prayers and offers of encouragement during this time.
